Generation gap

Significant difference in age between two people is normally referred to as a generation gap.

Actually, there is no such thing as a generation gap; but rather due to people's disagreements, communication break-down, no respect for each other, different points of view, dislike for each other etc, all these could happen to an individual regardless of age, culture, or beliefs.

This is one of human's sicknesses - dislike or hatred. Why not take a step back, learn to love a little as well as harmonize with others, then what will follow is that such uncomfortable gap or say any hatred should disappear without trace.

Get and Give

When you are a baby you cry to Get food; when you are in school you yearn for knowledge and Get education.

When you leave school you need to earn a living and Get a job. Then you have to Give your knowledge and expertise to survive; as life goes on you learn how to Give more to other people or the charity.

By the end of your life you have to Give all you have accumulated from Getting because you cannot carry your belongings and wealth into the next life.

Good Day

There is a saying: "every day is a good day, every year is a good year!"

One should understand that problems, obstacles and ups & downs are all just part of the human life cycle everyone must experience. Whenever problems and obstacles arise, we should try our very best to sort out any difficulties, accept this is part of the path in our life and all our worries should disappear without trace.

Then why worry! Certainly, not all the roads are dead-ends.

If we could treat each day as a good day and each year as a good year, then our life will be become more meaningful and happier no matter what happens.

Remember "Rainbow and blue sky are always come after heavy rain"!

Good Deed

There is no "small or big" Good Deed, just do it without hesitation.

A Bad Deed is "bad deed" no matter how "small or big". Why do it?

Good or Bad time

Use an ordinary heart to welcome either bad or good time, then what is a bad or good time?

In other words, don't be so happy when you are having a good time, that good moment won't last forever, just well prepare when the bad time arrives.

During the bad time, we have to adopt the fighting spirit to overcome the bad situation in order to sail through the rough time. No bad time will last forever either.

Just adopt medium attitude to every situation, then everyday will be a good day.

Happiness Formula

DESIRES FULFILLED
HAPPINESS = ----------------------
DESIRES ENTERTAINED

Here is a formula for Happiness:

Clearly, the less desires one has the greater the proportion of those ENTERTAINED that will be FULFILLED and the greater the HAPPINESS quotient. The other implication of the formula is that if one can have no desires, then one is infinitely happy; the Buddhist call this state "Nirvana"; the Taoist call this finding the "Tao", returning to the great void.

Hard Work

Hard work will bring rewards.

Anger & frustration will damage your health.

Hatred and sorrow

Hatred will bring heartache and sorrow. If one keeps feeling hatred and sorrow, one will not have a peaceful and meaningful life. Why should one continue to carry such burden all their Life?

****

A teacher asks a group of students to craft all their dislikes one by one on a potato each.
i.e. I hate John, I do not like my next door neighbor etc, then one by one stitch the crafted potatoes together and hang them around their neck for 7 days 24 hours.

After 7 days, the teacher asks:

"Hey! How do you all feel?"

The students said:

"It is really heavy, some say it is so troublesome, some say it is not nice at all, it stinks, feeling uncomfortable etc."

Moral of the story

Imagine, how would one feel if one were to carry such burden(s) for life?

Well! Just let go! Surely one will feel much much easier, better, happier, ..etc...etc.

Humble

Do not show off our expertise to belittle others, always be humble.

Implementing

Objective is only the dream of success, but implementation is the path to success.

Knowing

Knowing something is easy, but to understand; it is a different matter.

Often, we jump to conclusion, when we have only heard part of the story, then our judgment will be clouded with "misunderstanding", followed by anger, unhappiness and sadness.

Why not input the whole story, understand and analyze it with your heart, then put yourself into other people's shoes before deriving to any conclusion.

This technique will help us tenfold to thread our way in our daily life and lead us to a right path of success.

** Why not? **

Knowing & Doing

Learning, diligently to gain wisdom and hard work are the basic factors toward success or failure.

There are no short cuts. Learning is a must!

Knowing, doing, not knowing and not doing always surround our whole life. In other words, we choose our own destiny; the outcome is in our own hands.

Knowing it and doing it. You are capable.

Knowing it but not doing. You are useless.

Not knowing but still doing. You are stupid.

Don't know; don’t do. You are hopeless.

Knowing, seeing & understanding

One of the rules in primary school is for students not to be allowed to wear any jewellery in school.

One-day the teacher spot-checked all the students and realized a girl in primary three wearing a ring.

The teacher said to the girl:

"Remove your ring at once, and one hour detention after school."

The girl said to the teacher with tears in her eyes:

"When my parents got divorced, my mum gave me this ring, saying that if I really miss her, just wear the ring to remember her. Actually, today is my birthday, I really miss my mum!"

After the teacher understood the reason, the teacher gave the girl special permission to wear the ring for this one day.

Moral of the story

Gossiping is quite often only attached to knowledge without facts or logic, the subject matters are only conveyed via third parties, newspaper etc., so nobody knows whether it is 100% true or not.

Knowing and seeing are still not enough, there is always a real reason behind things that we need to understand? So, we should put ourselves into their shoes.

Learning

Manfred said:

Life is like a chicken ladder, full of chicken shit, the higher you climb up the ladder, the more slippery it gets. Suddenly you fall off the top to the messy bottom. Oh! Oh!

As long as you pick yourself up and do not give up! Just start all over again.

Well! This is life! No harm done!

Learning limit

A man said to his teacher:

"I’ve been learning for a year, I think I'm ready to go round the world to teach others!"

The teacher said to him:

"Firstly, get me a bucket, fill it with stones until it is full!"

The man said:

"Oh! It is really full!"

The teacher said:

"Is it possible to fill in more sand"?

The man said:

"Yes! Teacher."

So he fills the bucket with as much sand as possible, seeping through the gaps in the stones.

The teacher said:

"It does look full and without room to put in anything more! Yes?
Now try adding some water to see how it goes?"

The water slowly seeps into the bucket.

Now the man understood that learning is limitless and never enough!

Moral of the story

There is no maximum limit of knowledge for one to take-in, we learn until the last day of our earthly existence.

Learning from school, books and others good things in order to compensate for our shortcomings, these are some of the ways to acquire knowledge throughout our life.

However we need to learn about good practices as well as what is bad, so that we can differentiate between good and evil.

Let it be

Let it be in any environment or circumstance, so that neither sorrow nor happiness interferes with one's life.

Life Cycle

Humans cannot avoid the cycles of being:-

Born, growing old, falling sick and finally facing death.

Birth, growing old, sickness and ultimately death is a life cycle applying to every living being, regardless of status of health or wealth.

One has to go through such a path without doubt, but it is better to try achieving a better self, helping others without intend, do more good-deeds, learn the good things from others, acquire more knowledge etc.

So, if we all understand, death is not a sad subject at all. We are only temporarily dwelling in this world, when our lease has expired, we all have to leave and all enter via the same entrance to our next destiny regardless of race or religion. Why not make peace with everyone, let bygones be bygones, be kind to the environment, try to work together to help each other, respect each other etc.

For sure, this world will become a better place to live in and our life cycle this time is worthwhile and much more meaningful.

May Be

An ancient Chinese story tells of a very poor but contented old man. One day his only horse ran away. The people in the village lamented, "Your horse has run off, too bad!" The man said, "Maybe" and smiled.

Some days later, his horse returned with two wild horses tagging along. The villagers rejoiced, "Now you have 3 horses, how lucky!" But the old man smiled as before and said, "Maybe".

The next day, his only son, while taming one of the wild horses, fell and broke his leg. The villagers said, "Oh no! Now your son will not be able to help you in the fields, how unfortunate for you"! Again, the old man smiled and said, "Maybe".

A few days later, the army came to the village, conscripting all able-bodied young men, and of course, they couldn't be bothered to cart along a man with a broken leg……….

Moral of the story

The story teaches us that in life, balance is the great secret. Balance in our actions and balance in our views. Balance yields success and happiness in a world that is continually moving in circles from one extreme to another.

Mean and broad-minded

Mean people do not have lots of friends.

Broad-minded person can win people's heart.

Middle Attitude

Life has its Ups and Downs like a graph. No one will stay at the top or the bottom forever. "Middle Attitude" is the motto.

Take the tuning of a musical instrument as an example:

If the strings are too tight or loose, the sound will not be right. Ideal sound can only be achieved when the instrument is tuned to the right level.

**That is life!**

Monkey

Everybody has an active, wild and uncontrollable "monkey" in their heart. As times go by, we will find ways to control it to become more respectful & mature.

** This is life! **

Normal Life-cycle

Life is always full of happiness and bitterness - in other words, it is normal.

Success and failure are part of our life - that is equal and ordinary.

To be born and to die is natural.

No Pain, No Gain

Success is the end result of study, hard work, worry and learning from all the unsuccessful experiences.

For sure, there is no such thing as a short cut in life.

Nothing is forever

Gradually white hairs appear; one after another.

Facial skin starts to wrinkle into furrows like railway-lines; side-by-side.

Walking becomes noticeably more sluggish, step-by-step.

The body starts aching all over and teeth go missing one by one…etc..etc

So for sure, nothing remains in a permanent state forever; change is inevitable.

That's life, everybody will go through similar procedures regardless of being rich or poor; one day, when the time comes to crossover to the other place, the only thing we can carry is our debit and credit books plus our knowledge.

Hey! How about my money, house, jewellery etc etc.

Sorry to say, you have to leave them behind.

So try to do more good deeds to accumulate more credits, and to acquire more knowledge till the last breath. Then you will not have wasted your time and effort spent living as a human being.
